The first stage of the Hero’s Journey is the ordinary world. This is the introduction to the reader about your character. It is the foundation of your story. An example of the ordinary world is from a movie that i saw hangover where they start of going to Las Vegas and that is where the story begins.
The second stage of the Hero’s journey is the call to the adventure. It makes clear the hero’s goal. It is when they are being moved from their ordinary world. Make your reader wonder what will happen. You have to keep it interesting until the reader finds out the answer or the end of the story. An example of the call to the adventure in the hangover is when the main characters lose their friend and they have to go out of the ordinary world to go find him.
The third stage of the Hero’s Journey is the refusal of the call is mainly about fear about failure and fear about something they don’t know. A hero can refuse the call by not knowing what they are or refuse to be what they are going to be later on. An example is a book I read called cirque du freak where the main character does not know that he is the chosen one and he refuses to go because he does not know what that is and he was scared to get out of the place he is use to.
The fourth stage of the Hero’s Journey is the mentor . This is when the hero gets a call for action and he refuses the call but he needs the tool for success and he needs somebody to give them confidence and that person is the mentor. He or she is usually a very wise person. The role is temporary and they will go their separate ways later on. An example is in the book cirque du freak. Where Dave didn’t think he was anything special and his mentor a vampire makes him realize how important he is and that he is the chosen one
